I Met an Angel Once Before

I met an angel once before
Who fell to earth to tread the ground
With broken heart and darkened core
And with Iron chains his wings were bound

I loved my angel so much more
Than all the beings I'd seen before
I cried for all the wounds he bore
From when he fought his inner war

I longed to kiss his tears away
To break his chains so he could fly
The angel lead my heart astray
From all my pains that seemed so nigh

But soon to me it became clear
That his chains would not be broken
I kissed away a final tear
And not one more word was spoken

I met an angel once before
Who fell to earth to tread the ground
I couldn't heal the wounds he bore
Or break the chains that had him bound

I watch my angel from afar
And hope he finds a healing love
I watch him from a distant star
So my love will not be thought of
